The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has increased the pump price of petrol to N1,345 per litre, representing a N75 rise from the previous price of N1,270.

The latest adjustment was observed at several NNPCL filling stations across Abuja on Monday, including outlets in Gwarimpa and Wuse.

A staff member at one of the company’s stations confirmed the new price, saying the change took effect on Monday.

The increase comes less than a week after NNPCL adjusted its petrol price from N1,250 to N1,270 per litre on August 25.

The latest move has also coincided with price increases by several independent fuel marketers. MRS, Ranoil, Empire Energy and other retailers reportedly raised their pump prices by between N20 and N80 per litre over the weekend.

The price changes followed an upward adjustment in the ex-depot price of petrol by Dangote Refinery. The refinery recently raised its gantry price by N65 to N1,265 per litre.

The refinery had earlier expressed concern over rising petrol imports, warning that it could limit sales of its products to importers and marketers if the trend continued.

Data from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority showed that petrol imports accounted for 43.3 per cent of the market in July.

The latest increase also comes amid higher international crude oil prices. Brent crude was trading at about $91.20 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate stood at approximately $86.32.

With both local fuel producers and retailers adjusting their prices, motorists are likely to face higher petrol costs across different parts of the country.
