Dangote Sells Cooking Gas at N980/kg, Below Other Depots

Dangote Petroleum Refinery is selling cooking gas at N980 per kilogram, lower than the N1,160 to N1,170 rates listed by other selected depots across Nigeria.

Data from Petroleumprice.ng showed that 11 PLC, Ardova, Rain Oil and Techno Oil quoted N1,160 per kilogram, while Navgas and Nipco listed their prices at N1,170.

The price difference comes as Nigerian households face rising cooking gas costs. The average retail price of a 12.5kg cylinder increased to N17,616.94 in September 2026 from N16,847 in August, representing a 4.57 per cent monthly rise.

Despite Dangote’s lower depot price, consumers may pay more at retail outlets because of transportation, distribution expenses and retailers’ margins.

Retail prices vary across locations. Shagamu and Badagry recorded prices of N15,000 for a 12.5kg cylinder, while Owode Yewa recorded N15,500.

In Lagos, Ayobo and Ogba recorded prices as high as N21,250 for a 12.5kg cylinder. Biu in Borno State recorded N20,625, while Iriebe, Oyo Alafin and Eleme recorded N20,000.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government is pursuing the National Grassroots LPG Programme, which aims to help five million households switch from firewood and charcoal to cooking gas by 2030. The initiative was launched in Bayelsa State under the Decade of Gas Initiative.

The latest depot prices highlight the differences in cooking gas costs across suppliers, although the extent to which lower depot rates benefit consumers will depend on distribution costs and retail pricing.
