Kenya Reopens Turkana Oil Pipeline Plan for Dangote Refinery

Kenya is reviving plans to develop an oil pipeline linking its Turkana oil fields to the proposed Dangote refinery, as the country explores new opportunities to commercialise its crude oil resources.

The development could provide a new route for transporting Kenya’s crude oil to the refinery, owned by Nigerian industrialist Aliko Dangote.

The renewed interest in the pipeline project comes as Kenya seeks to advance its oil industry and strengthen regional energy cooperation.

Dangote recently attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the East African Refinery in Lamu County on September 30, 2026, highlighting growing investment interest in the region’s refining sector.

The proposed pipeline would connect Kenya’s oil-producing region of Turkana with refining infrastructure, potentially creating an export route for its crude oil.

The project also presents an opportunity to deepen energy and trade relations between Kenya and Nigeria, particularly as African countries explore ways to develop domestic refining capacity and reduce dependence on imported petroleum products.
