The Federal Government is ramping up efforts to boost crude oil production to two million barrels per day through intensified exploration, especially in the Kolmani Oil Basin.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Bauchi Oil and Gas Academy in Alkaleri, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, emphasized the administration’s renewed commitment to unlocking the nation’s oil potential.
“Before this administration came on board, Nigeria was producing less than a million barrels per day,” Lokpobiri stated. “The Kolmani project is key to hitting our target of over two million barrels daily.”He highlighted the Bauchi Oil and Gas Academy as a crucial institution in supplying skilled manpower to the sector.
“This academy will be instrumental in training the next generation of oil and gas professionals,” he said.Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, hailed the project as a landmark achievement in the state’s educational and economic advancement.
“Today marks a significant milestone in our drive to empower youths and women through vocational education in the oil and gas sector,” he said. The governor disclosed that each local government would sponsor ten students at the academy, while all enrollees would receive a 50% subsidy.
“We are committed to ensuring the academy achieves its mandate, even before the permanent site is ready,” he added.Commissioner for Natural Resources Development, Maiwada Bello, revealed that over 500 students had already begun academic activities at a temporary site within Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic, following the academy’s approval in 2020.
He also noted that N6 billion had been earmarked for its construction. The Minister urged the state government to collaborate with the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), which offers scholarships to support student advancement in oil and gas education.
“We will support Bauchi State in realizing its vision and contributing to national growth through meaningful economic activities,” Lokpobiri assured.
