The Kogi State Government is deepening its partnership with the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) in a move to improve access to clean and renewable energy across the state—especially in rural and underserved areas.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, who recently visited the ECN headquarters in Abuja, held strategic talks with the Commission’s Director-General, Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi. The visit marked a renewed commitment to aligning with the federal government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which promotes sustainable development and inclusive energy access nationwide.
During the meeting, Governor Ododo praised Dr. Abdullahi—himself a son of Kogi—for his work in championing Nigeria’s transition to clean energy. He emphasized that expanding energy access is not only key to improving lives but also a pillar of his administration’s development priorities.
The governor reaffirmed that his administration would work closely with national institutions like the ECN to drive practical solutions—such as off-grid solar systems—to bridge electricity gaps in rural areas. He also highlighted the importance of energy in empowering youth and supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s broader development blueprint.
Dr. Abdullahi, in his remarks, updated the Governor on ECN’s flagship projects, including the Renewed Hope Solarization Project, which is set to deliver solar-powered streetlights and other infrastructure across all 36 states. He revealed that the Commission is targeting 30% off-grid electricity coverage nationwide—an objective he said fits well with Kogi State’s energy goals.
The collaboration between Kogi and the ECN signals a growing momentum for clean energy development in Nigeria, with the state positioning itself as a model for decentralized and sustainable energy access.
