NNPC, FIRST E&P Hit 10 Million Man-Hours Without Injury in Major Safety Milestone

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) and its joint venture partner, FIRST Exploration and Petroleum Development Company, have achieved a major safety feat—reaching 10 million man-hours without any Lost Time Incident (LTI) across their operations in PML 53 and PML 54.

The milestone was celebrated at an event in Lagos attended by key industry figures and stakeholders. During the ceremony, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, commended the company’s staff and leadership for maintaining high safety standards. He noted that such an achievement is only possible through consistent teamwork and daily commitment, not just planning.

He also praised FIRST E&P’s Managing Director, Ademola Adeyemi-Bero, for his leadership and his role as Chairman of the OPEC Board of Governors, describing him as a strong ambassador for Nigeria and Africa.

Adeyemi-Bero credited the accomplishment to the combined efforts of employees, contractors, and partners, highlighting the company’s long-standing safety culture built over nearly 13 years of operation.

Seyi Omotowa, who heads the NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services, also expressed his admiration for the achievement. He said it reflects the company’s professionalism and dedication to excellence, noting that FIRST E&P currently produces more than 54,000 barrels of oil daily.
