In a bid to ease fuel costs for Nigerians, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery has again lowered the price of petrol this time trimming it to ₦820 per litre. This marks the second price slash in just one week, following an earlier drop from ₦880 to ₦840.
The refinery has now reduced the product’s price by a total of ₦60 in seven days, signaling a shift in response to market trends. A Dangote Group representative confirmed the latest reduction on Tuesday, describing it as part of efforts to cushion the financial strain on consumers.
Just weeks ago, petrol prices had spiked nationwide after major distributors blamed the rising cost of crude oil on tensions between Iran and Israel. Pump prices had climbed above ₦900 in many cities and crossed ₦960 in some northern regions.
However, with tensions easing and crude oil prices falling below $70 per barrel, local fuel prices are gradually retreating. Filling stations in Lagos and Ogun States are now selling petrol between ₦875 and ₦890 per litre, and industry watchers expect pump prices to continue dipping in the coming days.
