Russia and Nigeria are ramping up efforts to strengthen their cooperation in the energy sector, following a meeting between Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Alexander Novak, and Nigeria’s Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun.
The two officials discussed broad areas of collaboration spanning the full spectrum of the oil and gas industry—from exploration to production—as well as closer ties in industrial equipment supply, financial services, and banking.
Both countries also emphasized the importance of maintaining strong coordination within the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) and the OPEC+ alliance. They agreed that their joint efforts are key to keeping the global oil market stable and predictable.
Novak described Nigeria as a valuable and promising partner for Russia in Africa, adding that both nations benefit from the decisions made under OPEC+, which are guided by real-time market conditions.
“Our partnership through OPEC+ helps bring balance to the global oil market, especially in challenging economic times. These joint actions support the long-term economic interests of our nations,” Novak said.
He also reiterated Russia’s commitment to supporting the shared goals of gas-producing countries on the global stage.
The meeting highlights growing momentum in the Russia-Nigeria energy relationship, as both nations look to expand cooperation in a rapidly changing global energy landscape.
