NNPC Drills Four Oil Wells in Bauchi

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has drilled four oil wells in the Kolmani area of Bauchi State, as part of efforts to boost oil and gas exploration in the northern region.

This update was shared by NNPC director Yusuf Usman during a two-day forum in Kaduna, where he said the company is now reviewing the best technology to move into the next phase of drilling operations.

The Kolmani site, located between Bauchi and Gombe states, is home to Nigeria’s first major oil project in the North—the Kolmani Integrated Development Project. NNPC says it remains committed to unlocking the full potential of the area and expanding oil activities in the region.

In addition to the drilling, Usman revealed that NNPC is also developing five new gas plants in Kogi State. These include facilities for both Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), aimed at increasing access to clean energy and supporting the federal government’s transition to alternative fuels.

Earlier this year, NNPC announced it would resume full drilling at the Kolmani field. The latest progress signals that work is in motion, as the company looks to diversify Nigeria’s energy sources and improve supply across different regions.

These projects are expected to bring long-term benefits, supporting energy access, reducing reliance on petrol, and helping to power Nigeria’s move toward cleaner fuel options.
