Enugu Governor Applauds Tinubu for Fuel Subsidy Removal, Higher State Allocations

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has lauded President Bola Tinubu for implementing bold economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of exchange rates, saying they have significantly improved state finances and created room for development projects.

Speaking during the inauguration of a new CNG bus terminal in Enugu on Thursday, Mbah said the reforms had freed up resources that were previously tied up in recurrent expenses, allowing the state to invest in large-scale projects.

“Paying salaries used to take almost all of our monthly allocations, leaving little for infrastructure or capital projects. Today, thanks to these decisive reforms, we are able to execute major initiatives that were previously impossible,” the governor explained.

Mbah highlighted some of the ongoing initiatives, including the construction of 7,000 modern classrooms equipped with advanced digital tools. “We are completing 60 classrooms every week. Each school is designed to provide 21st-century skills, with facilities for robotics, artificial intelligence, CGI, virtual, and augmented reality,” he added.

The governor also expressed appreciation for the concessioning of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport and pledged Enugu’s continued support for the Tinubu administration.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, who was present to inaugurate federal projects in the state, commended Mbah for aligning with the President’s vision. Idris emphasized that Tinubu’s policies over the past two years were already producing tangible results.

“The removal of fuel subsidies was a bold step that has unlocked resources for meaningful governance. Both the federal and state governments are now working together to deliver progress for the people,” Idris said, while also hinting at a possible political invitation for the governor to join the All Progressives Congress.

The visit marked the minister’s first official engagement in the South-East, and he expressed optimism that such collaborations would continue to drive development across the region.
