Ebonyi Targets Recovery of NLNG Dividends Dating Back to 1999

The Ebonyi State Government has begun steps to recover outstanding dividends and oil-related revenues owed to the state from the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) project since 1999.

Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Chief Ikeuwa Omebeh, disclosed this in Abakaliki while briefing journalists on the resolutions from the 9th State Executive Council (EXCO) meeting chaired by Governor Francis Nwifuru.

Omebeh explained that as a shareholder in NLNG, Ebonyi State is entitled to dividend payments that have not been fully reconciled or remitted for more than two decades. To address this, EXCO approved the hiring of TIARAS White Consult Limited to handle the verification and recovery process. The consultancy will receive 15 percent of any recovered funds as commission, an adjustment from an earlier 10 percent fee.

He stressed that the recovery exercise is necessary to ensure the state secures all outstanding entitlements from 1999 to date.

Beyond the revenue drive, the council also approved key investments in healthcare. These include the construction of an ultra-modern clinic within the Ebonyi State Government House, budgeted at ₦3.51 billion, designed to serve as both an emergency response center for officials and a showcase for modern medical technology.

Additionally, the state plans to acquire the Pentecost Foundation Hospital in Ezzamgbo for ₦250 million. The purchase will cover the hospital’s facilities, equipment, and staff, further strengthening the state’s healthcare delivery system.

The twin initiatives—recovering long-overdue oil and gas revenues while boosting healthcare infrastructure—reflect Ebonyi’s bid to improve its fiscal standing and expand access to essential services.
