The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has explained that the widespread power outage in Kaduna State was caused by the collapse of two transmission towers in Rigasa community.

In a statement on Saturday, TCN’s spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah, said the towers on the Kaduna Town Line I and II were brought down on September 18 following a heavy downpour and windstorm. She added that parts of Southern Kaduna were the most affected by the outage.

According to TCN, an inspection at the site revealed that vandals had earlier removed some components of the towers, weakening the structures before the storm eventually knocked them down.

To cushion the impact on residents, the company directed the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDCO) to connect the 33kV Mogadishu feeder with the 33kV Abakwa feeder, ensuring partial supply to some customers.

Mbah disclosed that engineers are already dismantling the collapsed structures to prepare the ground for the installation of new towers.

“We regret the inconvenience caused to our customers and want to assure them that our team is working tirelessly to restore normal supply as soon as possible,” the statement said.
