Cuba is participating as guest of honor at the Taiyuan Low-Carbon Energy Development Forum in Shanxi, China, where global leaders and experts are discussing new pathways toward sustainable energy.
The gathering, centered on the theme “Green and Low-Carbon Transformation: Building a New Energy System,” features multiple international conferences and side events. Cuba also hosted its own session titled “Energy Transition and Climate Action: Science, Innovation and Communication for Sustainable Development.”
Leading the Cuban delegation, Armando Rodríguez Batista, Minister of Science, Technology and Environment, said the forum is a chance to explore how countries with very different energy realities can cooperate to advance climate goals. He noted that science, technology, and innovation are vital to achieving those commitments.
Rodríguez Batista pointed out that Cuba produces relatively low greenhouse gas emissions compared with developed nations, with the largest contributions coming from energy, transport, tourism, and agriculture. He also underlined that upgrading the island’s electricity system will strengthen the use of renewable energy sources as a complement to traditional fossil fuels.
He was accompanied by Rosell Guerra Campaña, Director of Renewable Energy, and Mayte Mazorra González, Director of Science, Technology and Environment at the Ministry of Energy and Mines. The Cuban delegation shared its strategies to accelerate the clean energy transition and reinforce climate resilience.
The forum closed with a call for stronger global cooperation in the push toward cleaner energy systems, with Cuba reaffirming its commitment to sustainable development.
