The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has raised the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), with its filling stations in Abuja’s Wuse Zone 4 and Zone 6 now selling at N905 per litre, up from N890.
The adjustment represents a N15 or roughly 1.7 percent increase in the cost of petrol at NNPCL outlets.
President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Abubakar Maigandi, said the latest price hike was triggered by supply disruptions linked to the recent clash between the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) and the Dangote Refinery.
Maigandi noted that while NNPCL outlets have raised prices, independent marketers are still dispensing fuel at between N885 and N895 per litre.
He explained that the temporary shortage followed the industrial dispute between PENGASSAN and Dangote Refinery over the dismissal of several Nigerian workers. The strike, which lasted two days, was called off after the federal government intervened.
Despite the resolution, the disruption has affected fuel availability, resulting in higher retail prices.
The increase comes as Nigerians continue to grapple with high fuel costs, which have further strained transportation expenses and household spending.
