Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited (SNEPCo) has resumed production at its Bonga deepwater field following a major maintenance on the Bonga FPSO (Floating Production, Storage, and Offloading) vessel.
The maintenance, which started on February 1, 2026, was completed on March 6—11 days ahead of schedule and reported no safety incidents. Over 1,000 personnel worked offshore, with more than 95% being Nigerian professionals involved in engineering, operations, inspection, and construction. Thousands more supported the project from onshore.
Ronald Adams, Managing Director of SNEPCo, said the achievement reflects the dedication of the workforce and the support of partners. He added that the project strengthens the reliability of the Bonga FPSO and sets the stage for the upcoming Bonga North project.
The exercise engaged 55 companies, including 43 Nigerian firms, while eight of the 12 international service providers maintain operational bases in Nigeria, helping with knowledge transfer and local investment. Adams also acknowledged support from NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, and the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board.
This restart highlights the growing capacity of Nigerian professionals in offshore oil and gas operations and ensures continued output from the Bonga field.
