Dangote Refinery Denies IPO Reports, Urges Public to Ignore Speculation

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals has dismissed reports suggesting it has commenced plans for a public share offering, warning investors and the general public to disregard circulating claims about a supposed stock market listing.

In a statement released by its management, the company said it had noticed unauthorised messages spreading across media outlets and social platforms about a potential Initial Public Offering. It stressed that the information did not originate from the refinery and should not be relied upon.

According to the company, any move toward listing or raising capital from the public would be announced only through its official communication channels and in line with regulatory procedures. It added that several online publications had shared unverified details that were inaccurate and misleading.

The refinery emphasised that formal disclosures, if any, would come directly from the company or through advisers appointed for that purpose, in compliance with applicable laws.
It also clarified that the statement should not be interpreted as an invitation to buy shares or an offer of securities, noting that it was issued purely to correct misinformation.

The clarification follows earlier remarks by the President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, who had previously indicated that the refinery could be listed at some point to allow broader investor participation. He had spoken about plans to release a minority stake while retaining majority ownership.

Market stakeholders had also alluded to a possible future listing, including comments attributed to the leadership of the Nigerian Exchange Group, suggesting that discussions around bringing the refinery to the stock market had taken place.

However, the refinery’s latest position makes it clear that no official IPO process has been initiated. It urged stakeholders to await verified announcements and avoid drawing conclusions based on viral documents or speculative commentary.
