Bangladesh has started receiving an extra 8,000 metric tons of diesel from India through the Bangladesh-India Friendship Pipeline, with deliveries going directly to Padma Oil PLC’s Parbatipur depot.
According to Kazi Md. Robiul Alam, Manager of Operations at Meghna Petroleum Limited, approximately 5,500 metric tons of diesel had already been delivered by Thursday evening. Pumping from Assam’s Numaligarh Refinery began at midnight on April 7, and the full shipment is expected to reach Bangladesh by April 11.
The government relies on these imports to maintain the country’s energy security. Bangladesh has been importing refined diesel via this pipeline since 2021. Earlier this month, the country received a total of 17,000 metric tons of diesel in three separate shipments: two deliveries of 5,000 metric tons on March 11 and 23, and a 7,000 metric ton shipment on April 1.
This latest batch strengthens Bangladesh’s fuel supply ahead of the summer months, ensuring consistent availability for transportation and industrial needs.
