Dangote Foundation, NNPC Pledge Over N65bn for Remi Tinubu’s Food Bank Programme

Major donors from Nigeria’s private sector, foundations, and state institutions have pledged more than N65 billion to support a national community food bank programme led by Oluremi Tinubu to address hunger and food insecurity.

The commitments were announced during the official launch of the initiative and inauguration of its board of trustees, where contributors outlined how their support would target vulnerable households, especially young children and low-income families.

The Aliko Dangote Foundation led the pledges with an in-kind donation valued at N20 billion to be delivered over five years. The foundation said its intervention would focus on providing fortified and nutritious food to households with children under six years old to help reduce malnutrition.

The NNPC Limited also announced a N10 billion commitment to be disbursed over five years, noting that the contribution reflects its commitment to social impact and national development.

Further support came from the Sir Emeka Offor Foundation, which made an immediate donation of N500 million, describing the initiative as a practical response to the growing hunger challenge.

At the grassroots level, the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria pledged institutional support to help implement the programme in rural and underserved communities.

The chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and governor of Kwara state, Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, said state governments would align with the initiative through counterpart funding, noting that food insecurity and child malnutrition remain major concerns across the country.

Organisers said the programme will work with relevant institutions, including the Bank of Agriculture, to ensure structured distribution of food supplies to those most in need, with success measured by how effectively it reduces hunger among vulnerable Nigerians.
