Dangote-affiliated marketers have reduced the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), commonly known as cooking gas, to ₦985 per kilogram, a move that places them below prevailing depot prices and could trigger another round of price reductions across Nigeria’s domestic LPG market.
The latest pricing makes Dangote marketers among the lowest-priced suppliers, undercutting the average depot price of ₦1,030/kg by ₦45 per kilogram. It is also ₦65 lower than the highest depot price of ₦1,050/kg currently quoted by some marketers.
Market data shows that NIPCO, 11 Plc, Ardova Plc, and Techno Oil are selling LPG at ₦1,030/kg, while Navgas and Rainoil have maintained prices at ₦1,050/kg.
Industry observers say the price reduction is likely to intensify competition among depot operators, with many expected to review their pricing strategies to retain customers and protect market share.
If other suppliers respond by lowering their depot prices, the impact could extend to the retail market, allowing households and businesses to buy cooking gas at more affordable rates in the coming weeks.
Analysts believe sustained competition in the deregulated downstream petroleum sector is beginning to influence LPG pricing, as suppliers increasingly adjust prices to boost sales volumes and attract more buyers.
Should the trend continue, retail cooking gas prices could move closer to ₦1,000 per kilogram, providing relief to consumers who have faced elevated energy costs in recent months.
