Delborough Lagos has expanded its board with the appointment of former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Prof. Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, bringing decades of top-level industry experience to the luxury hospitality brand.
Kachikwu, a distinguished energy expert and former president of both OPEC and the African Petroleum Producers’ Organization (APPO), was officially inaugurated during the company’s annual board meeting in Lagos. The ceremony was presided over by the Board Chairman, His Royal Majesty Nnaemeka Alfred Ugochukwu Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha.
A native of Delta State, Kachikwu boasts an exceptional academic record, having graduated with First Class honours in Law from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and the Nigerian Law School, where he was named best graduating student. He later earned master’s and doctoral degrees from Harvard Law School, both with distinctions.
His professional background includes roles as Executive Vice Chairman of ExxonMobil Africa, General Counsel for Texaco Upstream and Downstream Nigeria, and Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). He currently teaches as a visiting professor at several international universities and advises multiple African governments.
In his remarks, the Obi of Onitsha welcomed Kachikwu and other newly inducted members, emphasising the uniqueness of the board’s composition. He noted that Delborough Lagos is the only corporate organisation in the country with a Senior Advocate of Nigeria serving as Board Secretary—referring to the appointment of Barrister Kelechi Nwaiwu, SAN.
Kachikwu praised the company for establishing itself as a top-tier hospitality destination within just two years of operation. He commended the brand’s customer service, award-winning performance, and the dedication of its workforce. According to him, Delborough Lagos has carved out a reputation for luxury and professionalism, attracting high-profile clientele and global recognition.
Other members of the board include notable figures such as the Oniru of Iruland, Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan Lawal; former Inspector-General of Police Usman Alkali Baba; architect and academic Dr. Yemisi Suswam; Mrs. Olajumoke Benson; Dr. Valentine Ozigbo; Matt Aikhionbare, OON; and Dr. Linus Idahosa.
Delborough Lagos recently earned the title of “Best New Luxury African Hospitality Brand” at the Seven Stars Awards, further cementing its standing in the continent’s premium hospitality sector.
