Egypt and US energy company Chevron have signed an agreement to fast-track the development of Cyprus’ Aphrodite gas field and link it to Egypt’s gas infrastructure. The deal was announced during the Egypt Energy Show (EGYPES 2026) in Cairo, in the presence of Egypt’s Petroleum Minister Karim Badawy and Cyprus’ Energy Minister Michael Demianos.
The agreement, signed by Chevron’s Javier La Rosa and Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum officials, aims to connect the Aphrodite field to Egypt’s gas transport and processing network. This will allow gas from Cyprus to be exported through Egyptian facilities.
Egypt has been working to establish itself as a regional hub for gas trading and liquefaction. By leveraging its pipelines and processing plants, the country seeks to supply gas from eastern Mediterranean fields to international markets.
