Electricity available to Nigerians through the national grid declined to 3,810 megawatts on January 11, 2026, according to figures released by the country’s grid operator.
The data shows that the power generated and transmitted was distributed to the eleven electricity distribution companies (DisCos) for supply to consumers nationwide.
This level of supply marks a sharp reduction from the 4,330 megawatts allocated to DisCos on January 5, 2026. The difference of about 520 megawatts indicates a significant drop within a short period.
The decline comes as the national grid continues to face operational challenges following its collapse on December 29, 2025, an incident that left many parts of the country without electricity.
Amid ongoing instability in the power sector, the Nigerian National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) disclosed in its most recent quarterly report that twenty companies applied in the third quarter of 2025 to withdraw from the national grid. The firms are seeking approval to generate power independently under captive power generation arrangements.
