Ex-NNPC Official Bala Wunti Announces 2027 Bauchi Governorship Bid

Bauchi State may see a high-profile contest in 2027 as Dr. Bala Wunti, former Chief Upstream Investment Officer at NNPC Upstream Investment Services, has officially declared his intention to run for governor under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Wunti made his announcement during a visit to the Bauchi Local Government APC secretariat, where he met party officials and supporters. In a statement from his campaign’s communication team, he emphasized that his decision was motivated by calls from citizens and stakeholders across the state, rather than personal ambition.

Speaking at the event, Wunti highlighted his focus on youth empowerment and long-term development, saying he aims to create opportunities and ensure inclusive governance if elected.

The visit also served as an opportunity to congratulate the new APC leadership in Bauchi Local Government Area and reaffirm his commitment to the party. Party officials described Wunti as a respected figure with a proven record in mentorship and community development, noting his past contributions have prepared others for leadership roles.

Meanwhile, speculation continues around former Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar, who resigned earlier in the week, with reports suggesting he may also enter the gubernatorial race under the APC.

Wunti’s campaign team and party leaders stress that his candidacy aims to strengthen unity within the APC and build a platform for sustainable growth across Bauchi State.
