Seyi Makinde has approved a ₦10,000 monthly transport allowance for workers in Oyo State, in response to rising fuel costs.
The decision was announced by Nigeria Labour Congress leadership in the state after discussions with the government. The allowance is expected to take effect from April 2026 and is aimed at easing the financial pressure many workers face due to higher transportation expenses.
According to labour representatives, the approval followed sustained engagement with the state government, as workers sought support to cope with the impact of increased petrol prices and the broader cost of living.
Governor Makinde later confirmed the measure during a public event in Ibadan, noting that the transport support will initially run for three months starting in April. He added that further details on how the payments will be implemented will be provided by the appropriate authorities.
