IPR Energy Discovers Oil in Egypt’s Western Desert

IPR Energy Group has made another significant hydrocarbon discovery in Egypt’s Western Desert, this time at the Yidma-12 well within the Yidma-Alamein concession.

Drilled to a total depth of 8,910 ft, the well targeted untapped reserves following recent drilling successes in the adjacent Alamein field.

The well hit a 73-ft oil column beneath a tight stratigraphic barrier in the Alamein Dolomite formation. A highly porous dolostone zone was perforated, producing a strong initial flow of 1,926 barrels of light oil per day, later stabilizing at 1,250 bo/d.

The oil tested at a high-quality 43°API, with minimal water cut at just 0.5% BS&W through a 64/64-in. choke.Currently flowing naturally, production is expected to climb to 1,500 bo/d once an electric submersible pump is installed.

“This well’s success, and previous successes last year within the concession, adds additional reserves and production wedges,” said IPR, crediting their revitalized exploration and redevelopment strategies across legacy assets in the region.

IPR holds a 100% working interest in the concession. A follow-up well, Yidma-14X, is in final drilling stages and will target deeper zones using similar completion methods.
