Nigeria, Denmark Seal Tech Partnership as Norway Invests in Solar Projects

Nigeria has signed a new agreement with Denmark to drive digital transformation and strengthen innovation, while Norway is supporting solar and battery storage investments in the country’s commercial sector.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Nigeria’s Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy and the Danish government was sealed in Lagos during the Nordic Nigeria Connect 2025 business forum.

According to organisers, the collaboration will help expand Nigeria’s digital public infrastructure, enhance access to technology training, and increase funding for startups. The partnership aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s vision to boost employment and economic growth through innovation and technology.

Bolaji Alonge, Media and Communications Lead for the forum, described the deal as a “new phase of tech-driven cooperation” that will open up fresh opportunities for young innovators in both countries.

Alongside the digital agreement, Norway’s renewable energy finance company, Empower New Energy, entered into new solar and battery power deals with Jendol Superstores and Jeddy Bolema, a local manufacturing firm. The projects aim to lower power costs and reduce dependence on diesel generators.

Representing Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Chief of Staff Samuel Egube said the state is committed to becoming “Africa’s testbed for Nordic innovation,” adding that Lagos offers the scale and diversity to pilot sustainable technologies.

Finland’s Deputy Minister for International Trade, Jarno Syrjälä, also emphasized the need for partnerships that deliver both economic and environmental impact. “Together, we can build solutions that are commercially sound and socially meaningful,” he said.

The 2025 edition of the Nordic Nigeria Connect brought together more than 100 companies from Nigeria and Nordic countries, exploring collaboration in renewable energy, health technology, digital innovation, and agriculture.

The embassies of Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden — co-organisers of the event — said the growing cooperation demonstrates a shift from talk to tangible action, strengthening ties between Nigeria and the Nordic region in key sectors that support sustainable growth.
