Nigeria Seeks Egyptian Expertise to Boost Upcoming Oil and Gas Projects

Nigeria is turning to Egypt for technical support as it prepares to expand its oil and gas sector. The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has invited the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) to lend expertise in upcoming development projects.

The collaboration aims to leverage the experience of Egyptian petroleum firms, known for successfully operating across Africa, and the proven track record of Egypt’s Projects Operation and Maintenance (EPROM) in managing Nigerian refineries.

The partnership discussions took place during a visit by an NNPCL delegation to Egypt, where officials met with EGPC Chairman Salah Abdel Kerim. Abdel Kerim emphasized that Egyptian companies are well-equipped to contribute to all stages of Nigeria’s oil and gas projects, from design and implementation to operations and maintenance. Companies such as ENPPI, PETROJET, EPROM, and Sonker were highlighted as potential partners. He also proposed a workshop to explore further expertise exchange between the two countries.

On the Nigerian side, the delegation—led by Mumuni Dagazau, Executive Vice President for Downstream at NNPCL—presented updates on ongoing projects, including EPROM’s work at the Kaduna, Port Harcourt, and Warri refineries. Dagazau underscored opportunities to expand collaboration in training, technical knowledge transfer, and refinery operations. He also mentioned plans to tap into Egyptian know-how for establishing natural gas fueling stations and converting vehicles to run on natural gas.

The talks further explored potential involvement from petroleum project companies and organizations like Gastec and Car Gas, aiming to strengthen Nigeria’s energy infrastructure.

NNPCL, which operates both in Nigeria and the UK, provides services across exploration, production, refining, gas development, petrochemical distribution, engineering, and commercial investments.
