The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission has launched a new forum to ensure closer coordination between federal and state electricity regulators in Nigeria.
The initiative aims to eliminate gaps and inconsistencies in oversight and create a more uniform regulatory framework across the country.
Speaking at the inauguration in Lagos, NERC Chairman Musiliu Oseni said the forum would prevent regulatory arbitrage, where operators exploit differences in rules between federal and state authorities.
Oseni emphasized that electricity is crucial for economic growth and national development. He noted that regulators are not just industry overseers but also play a key role in driving innovation, attracting investment, protecting consumers, and safeguarding public interest.
The chairman added that the forum would strengthen institutional capacity, promote regulatory alignment, and ensure that both federal and state electricity governance work toward common goals for the sector’s growth.
