Oil India Ltd. has entered into a new technology partnership with TotalEnergies aimed at accelerating exploration across some of India’s most challenging offshore regions. The agreement, signed on Wednesday, strengthens cooperation on deepwater and ultra-deepwater projects spanning multiple sedimentary basins.
According to Oil India, the collaboration will support ongoing appraisal work in the shallow offshore areas of the Andaman Basin and guide exploration efforts in its OALP-IX blocks located in the Mahanadi and Krishna-Godavari basins. Both companies will also jointly assess fresh opportunities expected under the next round of India’s open acreage licensing program.
A key component of the initiative includes technical assistance for stratigraphic wells in Category-II and Category-III offshore basins — wells that are central to the Indian government’s push for improved geological understanding and future resource development.
The signing ceremony was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, including Secretary Pankaj Jain. Oil India’s Chairman and Managing Director Dr. Ranjit Rath, along with senior executives from TotalEnergies, were also present.
Oil India said the agreement provides a framework to draw on TotalEnergies’ global experience in deepwater exploration, allowing both companies to streamline operations and strengthen India’s longer-term energy security goals.
The collaboration comes as India continues to expand its upstream portfolio and seeks to boost domestic hydrocarbon output, especially from frontier offshore regions.
