Reps Give MDAs 7 Days to Submit Documents for Naira-for-Crude Investigation

The House of Representatives has issued a one-week deadline to ministries, departments, agencies, and other key players involved in the Naira-for-Crude Oil Policy to submit all documents required for an ongoing probe.

The ultimatum followed the failure of several invited stakeholders to appear before an ad-hoc committee handling the investigation or provide the requested records.

Committee chairman, Hon. Boniface Emerengwa, expressed strong displeasure during a session in Abuja, noting that the committee’s work had been stalled due to what he described as a lack of cooperation and disregard for parliamentary oversight.

He explained that despite receiving adequate notice, most of the invited agencies neither attended the scheduled investigative hearing nor forwarded the documents needed to evaluate the policy’s implementation.

According to him, the situation threatens the transparency and accountability goals the House is trying to uphold. He warned that the committee will no longer tolerate delays or attempts to obstruct the process.

As a result, the committee extended the document-submission deadline to November 27, 2025, stressing that this would be the final grace period. The investigative hearing has also been rescheduled to December 2, 2025, at Conference Room 440.

Emerengwa said that non-compliant entities would face firm sanctions, which could include subpoenas, public disclosure of their refusal to cooperate, recommendations for penalties through relevant regulatory agencies, and escalation to the full House for further action.

He reminded stakeholders that the Naira-for-Crude Oil Policy is a major national issue with significant economic implications, insisting that the public is watching and expects accountability.

The committee urged all invited parties to treat the matter with urgency and ensure full compliance before the new deadline.
