Tinubu Renews Appointment of Yelwa as N-HYPPADEC CEO

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reappointment of Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC). This marks Yelwa’s second and final four-year term at the helm of the commission.

The renewal, confirmed by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), aligns with the provisions of Section 93 of the Electricity Act, 2023. According to a statement from Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations at the OSGF, President Tinubu expects Yelwa to further consolidate the commission’s achievements while introducing new initiatives to enhance its impact.

Established to address ecological concerns and foster socio-economic development in communities affected by hydroelectric projects, N-HYPPADEC has, under Yelwa’s leadership, launched multiple programs focusing on infrastructure, livelihoods, and environmental restoration. The President has directed that Yelwa’s renewed tenure should deepen these interventions to deliver sustainable benefits for the communities served by the commission.
