NUPRC resolves strike with workers

Industrial action at the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission) has been suspended after management reached an agreement with staff unions.

The brief strike was triggered by disagreements involving staff welfare and concerns around foreign training arrangements. The action disrupted administrative activities for several hours, but core regulatory operations in the oil and gas sector continued without interruption.

Following negotiations, the Commission met with representatives of the two main unions; the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria and the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers leading to a resolution of the dispute.

Authorities confirmed that there was no impact on crude oil production or licensing processes during the incident, despite initial public concerns.

The Commission also assured workers that it would improve staff development and working conditions in line with existing petroleum sector regulations. Normal operations have since resumed.
