Syria Discusses Oil and Gas Cooperation With U.S. Energy Firms

Syria has held talks with major American energy companies to explore potential cooperation and investment in its oil and gas sector.

The discussions were led by the Chief Executive Officer of the Syrian Petroleum Company, Youssef Qablawi, who met separately in Washington with representatives of Chevron, Hunt Oil Company, and Baker Hughes.

Talks with Chevron reportedly focused on strengthening an existing cooperation agreement between both sides and the possibility of upgrading it into a more formal implementation framework. Other meetings with Hunt Oil and Baker Hughes centered on identifying investment opportunities and technical support for rebuilding Syria’s energy infrastructure.

The engagements took place during the Global Energy Forum in Washington, where energy stakeholders gathered to discuss international partnerships and sector development.

A Syrian delegation led by Energy Minister Mohammad al-Bashir also attended the event, as part of efforts to attract foreign participation in the country’s energy rehabilitation and expansion plans.
