Dangote Refinery’s Jet Fuel Exports to Europe Surpass US

Nigeria’s Dangote Petroleum Refinery exported more jet fuel to Europe than the United States in June, marking a significant shift in the continent’s aviation fuel supply.

Data from S&P Global Commodity Insights showed that the refinery shipped about 466,000 metric tonnes of jet fuel to Europe during the month, up from 232,000 metric tonnes in May. The June exports were valued at about N757 billion based on prevailing domestic prices.

The increase in shipments came as Europe received more aviation fuel from overseas markets, helping to ease supply concerns that had emerged earlier in the year. Increased refinery output within Europe, alongside imports from suppliers such as Nigeria, contributed to improved market conditions.

In contrast, US jet fuel exports to Europe continued to decline. Shipments fell from 818,000 metric tonnes in April to 560,000 metric tonnes in May before dropping further to 399,000 metric tonnes in June.

The latest figures placed the Dangote Refinery ahead of the United States as Europe’s largest external supplier of jet fuel during the month, underscoring the growing role of the Nigerian refinery in international fuel markets.

The refinery, which began producing refined petroleum products in 2024, has steadily increased output and expanded exports to markets across Africa, Europe and other regions as it ramps up operations.
