The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has officially absorbed more than 1,000 young professionals into its workforce after they successfully completed a year-long internship and capacity development programme.

The announcement was made by the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd, Bayo Ojulari, who described the development as a significant step in the company’s efforts to build a skilled and competitive workforce.

According to Ojulari, the new employees underwent a rigorous process that included practical internships, intensive training sessions, and comprehensive performance assessments before being confirmed into permanent roles within the organisation.

He explained that the exercise reflects NNPC’s commitment to a workplace where competence, dedication, and performance determine career progression, rather than personal connections or background.

Ojulari noted that while the trainees initially joined the company through a recruitment exercise, their ability to meet expectations throughout the programme ultimately earned them permanent positions.

Addressing the newly deployed staff, he encouraged them to contribute fresh ideas, embrace innovation, and actively participate in shaping the future of the company. He also urged them to take responsibility for their professional development while maintaining the values of integrity, excellence, and hard work.

The NNPC chief further challenged the employees to remember the opportunities they had received and, in the future, support the next generation of talented professionals seeking similar opportunities.

The deployment forms part of NNPC’s ongoing transformation agenda following its transition into a commercially focused national energy company under the Petroleum Industry Act. The recruitment process began in July 2024 during the tenure of former Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, with the successful trainees now completing the programme and taking up full responsibilities across the company.
