Several MRS filling stations across Abuja and nearby areas have suspended petrol sales for about a week following supply disruptions linked to Dangote Refinery’s temporary halt in naira-denominated fuel sales.

Visits to some outlets showed that the stations have been without Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) since July 17, leaving motorists searching for fuel at alternative retail outlets.

A station manager, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said deliveries had stopped after the refinery suspended petrol loading in naira. The official, however, expressed optimism that supplies would resume following the refinery’s decision to restart sales.

Dangote Refinery had paused petrol sales in naira on July 15 before announcing the resumption of gantry sales on Thursday. The refinery also adjusted its ex-depot price to ₦1,215 per litre from ₦1,175 per litre.

The return of naira-based sales is expected to improve product availability and reduce uncertainty in the downstream petroleum market, which has experienced price volatility in recent days.

Despite the resumption, petrol prices have continued to climb at depots and retail outlets. In parts of Abuja, the product is currently selling for between ₦1,300 and ₦1,340 per litre, reflecting recent upward adjustments by marketers.
