Dangote Petroleum Refinery is offering the lowest ex-depot price for premium motor spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, among fuel suppliers in Nigeria, according to the latest market pricing data.

The refinery is selling petrol at N1,215 per litre, below prices quoted by private depots in Lagos, Warri and Calabar. In Lagos, most private depots are selling between N1,216 and N1,222 per litre, while prices in Warri range from N1,220 to N1,225 per litre. In Calabar, depot prices are higher, ranging from N1,222 to N1,230 per litre.

The price difference is expected to strengthen Dangote Refinery’s position in the downstream market by attracting more independent marketers seeking lower-cost fuel supplies.

Industry observers said increased purchases from the refinery could lead to lower pump prices across the country if marketers transfer the savings to consumers. They noted that motorists, transport operators and households that depend on petrol-powered generators could benefit from any further reductions in retail prices.

Analysts also expect competition among depot operators to intensify in the coming weeks as suppliers adjust prices to retain customers.

The development comes days after the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited reduced petrol pump prices at some of its retail outlets. In Lagos, the company lowered its pump price by N35 per litre to N1,265, while motorists in Abuja now pay N1,335 per litre following a N15 reduction.

Dangote Refinery recently opened direct petrol sales to all licensed marketers through its loading gantry, a move expected to improve product availability and increase competition in Nigeria’s fuel market.
