The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission has warned job seekers against falling victim to fraudulent recruitment schemes being circulated in its name.

The commission said fake employment letters, including documents generated with artificial intelligence, were being used to deceive members of the public.

The warning was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the NUPRC Head of Media and Corporate Communications, Eniola Akinkuotu.

According to the commission, it had received reports of bogus employment letters bearing the names of individuals who are not known to the organisation.

The NUPRC also disclosed that some fraudsters were demanding money from unsuspecting Nigerians while claiming they could use their connections to secure jobs for them at the commission.

It said the alleged fraudulent activities had been brought to the attention of law enforcement agencies for investigation.

The commission made it clear that there is currently no recruitment exercise taking place at the NUPRC.

It added that any future recruitment would be conducted in line with applicable laws and government regulations.

The NUPRC urged job seekers to verify employment information through its official channels and avoid making payments to individuals promising to secure positions at the commission.

It also advised members of the public to treat suspicious recruitment letters and requests for money as potential scams.
