Heavy truck activity has returned to the Dangote Petroleum Refinery as petroleum marketers increase purchases of petrol and diesel amid lower refinery prices.
The renewed interest is particularly strong in diesel, with marketers taking advantage of the price gap between Dangote’s products and supplies from several Lagos depots.
The refinery was offering Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) at ₦1,165 per litre and Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) at ₦1,570 per litre, giving buyers a cheaper sourcing option compared with prices at some competing depots.
Marketers linked to the refinery were also selling PMS at ₦1,175 per litre and AGO at ₦1,580 per litre.
Across Lagos, depot prices remained higher in several cases. PMS was quoted at about ₦1,167 per litre at Pinnacle and as high as ₦1,199 per litre at NIPCO, while African Terminal and Integrated were offering the product at around ₦1,195 per litre.
The price difference was more significant in the diesel market. AGO prices at some depots were between ₦1,650 and ₦1,665 per litre, placing them as much as ₦95 above Dangote’s gantry price.
The gap has encouraged high-volume buyers to source directly from the refinery, where lower prices could help reduce their procurement costs and improve margins.
The return of trucks to the refinery suggests that marketers are responding to the pricing advantage as they seek more competitive sources of petroleum products.
