Motorists in Tanzania will pay less for petrol and diesel this month following a reduction in the official indicative prices of petroleum products.

The Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) announced the new prices, which took effect from 12:01 a.m. on September 2, 2026.

Under the latest adjustment, petrol prices were reduced by 102 Tanzanian shillings per litre, while diesel became cheaper by 101 shillings per litre.

The price reduction comes as Tanzania continues to monitor developments in the international oil market, where crude and petroleum product prices remain sensitive to developments in the Middle East.

The region is a major centre for global oil production and transportation, meaning disruptions to supply routes and geopolitical tensions can have a direct impact on fuel prices.

Although Tanzania operates a market-based system for determining petroleum prices under the Petroleum Act 2015, fuel retailers are required to keep their pump prices within the indicative limits announced by EWURA.

The regulator said the new prices apply to fuel dealers operating under the country’s regulated indicative pricing framework.

EWURA has also appealed to consumers to help ensure compliance with the revised prices.

Members of the public have been encouraged to report filling stations that charge above the prescribed indicative prices.

The latest reduction is expected to provide some relief to motorists and other fuel consumers as the new rates take effect across the country.

EWURA said it would continue monitoring developments in the global oil market and their potential impact on petroleum prices in Tanzania.
