The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) is seeking more Chinese investment in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector to increase revenue flowing into the Federation Account.
The commission is planning an Oil and Gas Investment Summit in China, tentatively scheduled for November 2026, to showcase investment opportunities in Nigeria’s energy industry to potential investors.
Chairman of RMAFC’s Investment Monitoring Committee and Federal Commissioner representing Anambra State, Dr Ekene Enefe, disclosed this during a stakeholder engagement in Abuja.
Enefe said the commission had identified major opportunities in the gas sector and was working to attract investors to both the upstream and downstream segments of the industry.
He said RMAFC had also engaged the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment and the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC) on ways to bring more foreign investment into the sector.
According to him, the commission has a constitutional responsibility to monitor Federal Government investments in the oil and gas industry and ensure that the country receives the revenues and other financial benefits due to it.
Enefe added that RMAFC’s monitoring efforts had contributed to the recovery of some revenues and the enforcement of penalties against oil companies that failed to meet their obligations under the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), including those relating to gas flaring.
He said the Presidency had been briefed about the proposed summit, while consultations with other government agencies were ongoing to ensure its successful organisation.
The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, expressed support for the initiative and stressed the need for Nigeria to properly present its oil and gas investment opportunities to international investors.
Ekpo also called for stronger coordination among government institutions to ensure the effective implementation of the PIA and Presidential Executive Orders affecting the sector.
