TotalEnergies and its Nigerian partner, AMNI, have approved plans to develop the Ima offshore gas field, with production expected to start in 2028.

The final investment decision covers the development of the field located on Oil Mining Leases (OML) 112 and 117 near Bonny Island, Rivers State.

Ima is expected to produce about 350 million cubic feet of gas per day when it reaches its planned production level. This is equivalent to more than 60,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.

Gas from the field will be transported through a pipeline to Nigeria LNG’s facility on Bonny Island. TotalEnergies said the project is expected to provide about one-third of the gas required for the company’s Train 7 expansion.

The Train 7 project is designed to increase Nigeria LNG’s liquefaction capacity from the current 22 million tonnes per year to 30 million tonnes annually.

The Ima development forms part of TotalEnergies’ strategy to expand its gas operations in Nigeria by bringing additional gas resources into production.

The project is expected to strengthen gas supply to Nigeria LNG and support the expansion of the country’s liquefied natural gas production capacity.
