Residents of several communities in Enugu State will experience scheduled power interruptions for six days as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) undertakes maintenance at its Nsukka station.
Mainpower Electricity Distribution Limited (MEDL) announced that the exercise would run from November 5 to 10, with electricity supply interrupted daily between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
According to the company’s spokesperson, Emeka Ezeh, the maintenance will affect customers on the UNN, SUMAS and Orba 33kV feeders.
The affected communities are spread across Nsukka, Udenu, Uzo-Uwani, Igbo-Eze North, Igbo-Eze South and Igbo-Etiti Local Government Areas.
They include Orba, Obollo-Afor, Enugu Ezike, Ibagwa, Opi Agu, Eha-Alumona, Obollo-Eke, Iheaka, Edem Ani, Agbani, Obimo, Nkpologu, Lejja, Nguru, Aku and Ogbede.
Other locations expected to be affected are Odim Gate, Nkpor, Nru, Ede Oballa, El Tabera Estate, Ikenga Estate, Wilson Company, Umakashi, Isiakpu, G.R.A., Ogige Main Market and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
MEDL said the planned shutdown would enable TCN engineers to service equipment at the station, a measure intended to improve the reliability and quality of electricity supply.
The distribution company apologised for the inconvenience and urged affected customers to bear with it during the maintenance period.
Separately, MEDL linked the recent drop in electricity supply across Enugu State to declining power generation, which has affected the frequency of the national grid.
Ezeh said the reduction in generation had prompted TCN to ration available electricity, resulting in lower power allocations to distribution companies.
He explained that the shortfall had made it difficult for MEDL to meet its daily electricity supply targets.
The company said it was monitoring developments and sharing the available electricity across its network, adding that it hoped normal supply would resume soon.
