President Tinubu Leads the Charge Toward a Sustainable Future

President Bola Tinubu has positioned Nigeria as a global leader in the fight against climate change, emphasizing the economic potential of sustainable development.

Speaking at the 2025 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week and a virtual dialogue, Tinubu underscored Nigeria’s commitment to addressing the climate crisis.“We must work together as a global community to tackle climate change,” said Tinubu.

“The future of our planet depends on our unified action, and Nigeria is determined to lead by example.”His administration’s strategy focuses on three key areas: clean energy transition, climate resilience, and sustainable development.

Notably, the government is expanding infrastructure to support Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and electric vehicles, while also leveraging Nigeria’s vast solid mineral resources for green energy solutions.

Additionally, the introduction of the National Clean Cooking Policy aims to promote sustainable energy solutions at the household level. “This policy will improve the environment, public health, and the socio-economic wellbeing of Nigerians,” said Tinubu.

Tinubu’s bold move to launch a N10bn solar power project for Aso Rock demonstrates his commitment to sustainable governance. “This solar initiative is a step toward a future where Nigeria leads in renewable energy,” he added.

On the international front, Nigeria is making strides with the launch of Sovereign Green Bonds and is set to develop a Global Climate Change Investment Fund to attract more capital into the green sector. In March 2025, Nigeria finalized its Carbon Market Activation Policy, expecting to unlock $2.5bn in carbon credit investments by 2030.

President Tinubu’s vision aims to not only mitigate the impacts of climate change but also to create new jobs, boost economic growth, and improve the quality of life for Nigerians.

“Nigeria is committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2060,” concluded Tinubu. “This is our moment to transform, and we are fully dedicated to making it a reality.”
