The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) and NNPC Energy Services Limited (ENSERV) have signed a strategic agreement aimed at strengthening collaboration in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
At a meeting held in Abuja, both parties pledged to work closely to support Nigeria’s energy goals, especially in unlocking the country’s hydrocarbon potential through frontier basin exploration.
ENSERV’s newly appointed Managing Director, Sotonye Pinnick, led her team to meet with NUPRC’s leadership, expressing a renewed commitment to innovation and sustainable energy development.
“We are here to build a results-driven partnership with the regulator. Our focus is on delivering value through collaboration and supporting the national energy vision,” Pinnick stated.NUPRC’s Commission Chief Executive, Engr. Gbenga Komolafe, welcomed the ENSERV team and commended their proactive approach.
He emphasized that the collaboration aligns with the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021, which calls for greater synergy between regulators and operators.“Regulatory cooperation is not just ideal, it is mandated. We urge ENSERV to remain environmentally conscious, embrace innovation, and align operations with global energy transition trends,” Komolafe said.
The partnership will primarily focus on developing frontier basins—an area Komolafe described as “crucial for expanding Nigeria’s hydrocarbon reserves and improving energy security.”
The agreement is seen as a key step toward enhanced sector performance and reflects Nigeria’s broader commitment to positioning its energy industry for long-term growth.
