Ekpo, IPPG Push for Deeper Gas Investment, Sector Reforms

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, has met with top executives of the Independent Petroleum Producers Group (IPPG) to strengthen collaboration and drive key reforms in Nigeria’s gas sector.

The high-level meeting, held in Abuja, was led by IPPG Chairman Abdulrazaq Isa and brought together leading figures in Nigeria’s upstream oil and gas industry. Discussions focused on boosting gas production, addressing operational challenges, and unlocking new investments across the value chain.

Ekpo praised the IPPG for its critical contributions, highlighting the group’s role in job creation and economic reinvestment.
“IPPG has continued to demonstrate leadership in the gas sector. As indigenous investors, your work supports President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda for sustainable energy development,” Ekpo said.

He assured the group of the Federal Government’s commitment to resolving key industry hurdles and emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between operators, regulators, and policymakers.
“The government is ready to work with you to tackle pressing challenges and accelerate growth in the gas value chain,” he added.

In his remarks, IPPG Chairman Isa thanked President Tinubu for appointing members of the group into strategic roles at NNPC Ltd and OPEC, acknowledging the administration’s support for indigenous participation in the energy sector.
“We appreciate the recognition and are committed to delivering results that move the industry forward,” Isa said.

Isa also called for urgent intervention in critical areas including gas pricing, infrastructure deficits, gas flare penalties, legacy debts, and the availability of LPG.
“These issues, if addressed, will unlock upstream investment and ensure the sector thrives,” he noted.

Among those present were top executives from companies such as Seplat, ND Western, Waltersmith, Frontier Oil, Aradel Holdings, and Renaissance Africa.

The meeting marks another step in ongoing efforts to reposition Nigeria’s gas sector as a driver of economic growth and energy security.
