Nigeria produced 97 percent of its allocated crude oil quota from the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) in May 2025, according to new data from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).
The report, titled “Crude Oil and Condensate Production May 2025,” shows the country’s combined output of crude oil and condensate reached 1.81 million barrels per day (mbopd) last month. This includes 1.45mbopd of crude oil and 204,493 barrels per day of condensate.
The NUPRC noted a slight dip in performance from April, when Nigeria hit 99% of its OPEC quota with a total output of 1.68mbopd. “The average crude oil production was 97% of OPEC quota of 1.5mbopd,” the commission stated.
It added that the daily average production for May stood at 1.65mbopd. “Lowest and peak combined crude oil and condensate production in May were 1.61mbopd and 1.81mbopd respectively,” the NUPRC said.
This marks a drop from April’s figures, where crude oil output was 1.48mbopd and condensate production reached 141,546 barrels per day.
The reason for the 2% decline in output was not disclosed. Attempts to reach the commission for comment were unsuccessful as of press time.
Nigeria’s output in March was recorded at 1.40mbopd, showing steady improvements until the recent dip.
