Central Horizon Gas Company Limited (CHGC), a subsidiary of Axxela Limited, has taken a significant step in strengthening energy infrastructure in Rivers State with the addition of 5.1 kilometers of natural gas pipeline in Port Harcourt. The new extension is aimed at supporting growing industrial demand and promoting cleaner, more sustainable energy use across the region.
Stretching from Azikiwe to Reclamation Road in the Bundu-Ama community, the new pipeline brings CHGC’s total distribution network to 21 kilometers. Several new industrial and commercial customers have already been connected as part of the rollout, giving them direct access to piped natural gas.
Axxela Gas Distribution Managing Director, Kehinde Alabi, emphasized that the project is part of a wider vision to drive economic development through reliable and affordable energy. He noted that expanding the gas infrastructure is key to powering businesses and accelerating industrialisation in Nigeria.
“This goes beyond just laying pipelines it’s about enabling progress and creating long-term value for local industries. We are building the foundation for a cleaner, more cost-effective energy future,” Alabi said.
CHGC’s expansion aligns with its recently secured 25-year gas distribution license from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA). The license positions the company to serve even more customers across the Greater Port Harcourt Area and its designated Gas Distribution Zone.
Over the years, Axxela has established itself as a major force in Nigeria’s gas sector, advocating for natural gas as a cleaner and more efficient alternative to traditional fossil fuels. With over 400 kilometers of gas pipelines already developed nationwide, the company continues to play a key role in Nigeria’s shift towards sustainable energy.
As energy costs continue to rise globally, piped natural gas offers a competitive advantage to industries through improved efficiency and lower fuel expenses. By scaling up distribution in Port Harcourt, CHGC is contributing directly to Nigeria’s energy transition agenda and helping businesses reduce their carbon footprint.
