The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has improved electricity transmission capacity in Kebbi State by activating two new power transformers at its Birnin Kebbi substation.
According to a statement from TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah, the transformers — one rated at 100 megavolt-amperes (MVA) and the other at 150 MVA — were successfully powered up on Friday, June 27, 2025.
With this development, the substation’s capacity has risen from 300 MVA to 450 MVA. The upgrade will enable the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company to distribute an additional 120 megawatts (MW) of electricity to customers in Kebbi, Sokoto, and nearby areas.
The enhancement also supports the continued supply of electricity to Niamey in Niger Republic.
TCN reaffirmed its commitment to expanding and maintaining the national transmission infrastructure to ensure more efficient delivery of bulk electricity across the country.
