NNPC Reduces Petrol Price Again

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has reduced petrol prices at its outlets nationwide, marking the second cut in less than a week.

Motorists in Abuja are now purchasing petrol for N890 per litre, down from N895, with even lower prices of N875 seen at NNPC stations in Ibadan and some other cities. This move is seen as a response to changing market dynamics and aims to lessen the pressure on Nigerian consumers already dealing with fluctuating fuel prices.

Some independent retailers, particularly partners of the Dangote Refinery — such as AP Ardova, Optima, MRS, and Bovas — are also adjusting their pump prices, now offering fuel at around N885 per litre.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has renewed its call for a unified fuel pricing system across West Africa. Speaking at the West African Refined Fuel Conference in Abuja, NMDPRA chief Farouk Ahmed said regional price harmonization would curb the importation of adulterated products and boost Africa’s refining and shipping capacity.

The Federal Government is also highlighting the strategic importance of domestic refining. Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, stressed that expanding Nigeria’s refining output is central to achieving its ambitious GDP growth targets, urging stronger private sector investment in the oil and gas sector.

With these developments, stakeholders are hopeful that ongoing reforms will create more stability in Nigeria’s fuel market and reduce the country’s reliance on fuel imports.
